About

The Highway Sanctuary is an ongoing experiment of creative expression. Here, we are creating the kind of world we want to live in.

We have a mission statement because it is required to retain our 501(c)(3) status. However, we are not missionaries, and we are not on a mission. Each moment of creation leads to the next. There is no beginning or end to our endeavor. We are participants in an ongoing journey.

We are inventors, experimenters, destroyers…artists. Our work is our play. The levels of high-octane inspiration we experience and generate are a way of life.

Together we are constructing a 5 acre sculpture garden that will live between our building on the hill at Keeler Ave and Highway 247 (Old Woman Springs Rd) in the Flamingo Heights neighborhood of Yucca Valley, California.

At the Highway Sanctuary we pay artists to share their process, skills, and experience in the form of workshops, classes, talks, performances, and art pieces. These workshops are free to locals. Work created during classes is added to our ever evolving sculpture garden.

We invite you to connect with us and develop and share what inspires you.
