Visit

The Highway Sanctuary headquarters and 5 acre sculpture garden are located at 1101 Old Woman Springs Road, Yucca Valley, CA 92284. We are just up the hill behind Giant Rock Meeting Room. Look for the bottle trees and 99 Cent truck.

  • Our monthly open house is the third Saturday of every month, from 12-5pm. This is free to the public.

  • The Highway Sanctuary is only open during scheduled classes, events, and our monthly open house.

What to know before a visit

Be open. Let creativity, experimentation, and wonder fill your soul.

The Highway Sancutary is a safe space open to all and hate has no home here.

Be friendly. Be respectful. Behave. Above all, have fun!

  • We are an outside desert art studio / sculpture garden.  An artist’s studio can be chaotic but to an artist it’s an organized “mess.”

  • Watch your step. Cactus, desert critters, and material oh my!

  • Share the sense of discovery and leave items where you find them for all to enjoy.  Please don’t alter the material or the installations.

  • Do not hang from, swing from, or climb the installations, scaffolding, or other structures at the site.

  • The items contained in the sanctuary are here for the purpose of making art and have been collected over time. They are not for sale.

  • No material is to be removed from the Highway Sanctuary without expressed written permission.

  • We want you to take pictures and share your experiences. Please tag us on social media:

  • We love receiving items that we can turn into beautiful things. See our Contribute page for specifics on donations.

  • Handicapable persons can visit and attend our activities. We can make exceptions for parking inside our fenced area. The entrance is corner of Cedarbird Street near where the trucks / bus are located. Please let us know in advance so we can take appropriate measures to accommodate you and ensure you are comfortable.

  • We allow service animals.

    • We love our furry friends, but the environment might not be conducive for them. Approval must be obtained if you would like an animal to accompany you that is not a service companion. If approved, animals must be leashed.

  • We respect your personal choice to smoke and vape, but the Highway Sanctuary requests no smoking in the house. If you are outside in the sculpture garden, be considerate of others around you that don’t want to inhale secondhand smoke. Please do not leave your cigarette butts on the ground.

  • There is no drinking at the Highway Sanctuary. If the Highway Sanctuary is having a special event, where libations are offered, you must be 21+ to partake.
